so the draft season is upon us again shortly, the scouting combine and pro days are going on as we speak. according to scouts and ***ysts, this year's draft class is not quite as deep as last year's. some teams might be trading down out of the first round. but as football fans know, this can never be an exact science and only time will tell on what kind of career these players will have. so with that said, let's talk draft!312050
name your team, what needs you think they need to address in the draft, or in free agency this off-season. i'm more of the "build through the draft" school of thought rather than free agency, so that's where i'll focus my particular attention. but feel free to name whatever you all think will help your team this offseason, draftees or free agents alike.
ILB: obviously ray is now retired, if we don't get dannell ellerbe back there is a huge hole in the middle to fill. kevin minter from lsu is an instinctive tackling machine, and just might be available late in the first round.
FS: free agent ed reed says he wants to come back, i'm sure this (along with the ellerbe situation) will be decided before the draft. hopefully he returns, but if not... phillip thomas from fresno state is a sneaky safety with ballhawking upside that could be good value in the 2nd or 3rd round.
DT: this draft is loaded with defensive tackles, the ravens need a run-stuffer, teams ran all over them this year. alabama's jesse williams might be available in the 2nd round, probably not in the 3rd. john jenkins from georgia also could be an option here.
C/G: with veteran matt birk retiring, there is a need for a versatile o-lineman that can fill the position. last year's pick gino gradkowski is being groomed for that role, but another option for centre and possibly guard would be helpful. center graham pocic from illinois is imposing, efficient and can line up at guard as well, he'll probably be available in the middle rounds.
WR: the ravens want anquan boldin back, and he's said he'll retire if he's cut. if he, flacco, or any of the other guys want to take the hit and renegotiate for less money to keep him there that's one option, but you can never bank on that. in which case, aaron dobson from marshall could be somebody to look at in the middle rounds. he's big, physical and can catch tough passes with db's in his face.
