A of triangle is 1/2 or 0.5 x b x h.

This is how you solve area of rectangle. 13ft x 24ft = 312 sq ft.

This is how you solve area of triangle. 5ft x 13ft x 0.5 = 32.5 ft.

You have to subtract the area of the triangle from the area of the rectangle to get that shade area.

Take 312 sq ft. and subtract 32.5 ft = 279.5 sq ft

Yeng**fobflipper**L*W Ignore the triangle61296142**Yeng27**61296144Don't matter.**ExpectedCaprice**wrote:

**Yeng27**61296150Square ft because you are finding the area.**jaychu05**wrote:

It's been too long since I've last had my geometry course. Thought the base x height formula only applied to right triangles. Guess not.**Yeng27**61296162As long as you have the base and height altitude the formula works. ;)**ExpectedCaprice**wrote:

Good job.**PIKACHU**Is funny because my answer key said its 279.5 cubic ft.61296190[ Edited by jaychu05 on 11/23/2012 8:51:57 AM ]

Error on your answer key. Area is always in square units. Cubic measurements are typically used for volumes.Besides "cube feet" doesnt even make sense, if it was supposed to be in cubic units, it would've said "cubic feet."

**PIKACHU**61296208Yeah I meant to say Cubic feet. But look at the answer key, I can't believe they made a mistake.**ExpectedCaprice**wrote:

**Yeng27**61296212That must be a typo, because areas are given as the square of the units and volumes are given as the cube of the units. The only way that could be 279.5 ft cubic is if we are looking at the face of a box that is 1 ft deep.**jaychu05**wrote:
